Dan is celebrating his 25th year at Accountants One in 2023. As CEO, Dan considers the opportunity to serve his A1 Family an honor. Watching others set and achieve goals is a source of great joy.
Dan was recognized as one of Atlanta's Most Admired CEOs by the Atlanta Business Chronicle in 2021. He was also recognized as an Executive Champion in Corporate Citizenship. Dan is in the Georgia Association of Personnel Services (GAPS) Million Dollar Hall of Fame. Under Dan's leadership, Accountants One has been named one of Atlanta's Best Places to Work.
Dan is the creator of the Search for the South's Funniest Accountant. This combination fundraiser/stereotype debunker has become a tradition in the accounting community. In 2022 the Search was back and selling out the Coca-Cola Roxy to raise $100,000 for Junior Achievement of Georgia.
Dan has been on the JA board for over a decade, allowing him the opportunity to continue to make a difference in the lives of children. Accountants One is involved in Case Study Challenges at Banneker High School and the team regularly volunteers at the Discovery Center.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Georgia State University and his master's degree from Emory University. Before joining Accountants One, Dan was an inner-city math teacher. In 1996, he was named the Academic Achievement Incentive Teacher of the Year for Middle Schools.
In 1998, Dan had the opportunity to join his father, Bert Erling, at Accountants One. This followed several summers of working for the firm. While Dan unexpectedly lost his dad on May 2, 2010, he considers the opportunity to work with Bert one of the highlights of his life.
Dan's wife, Michelle, is an art educator and painter (she painted the two pieces that hang in the lobby of the main office). He has two sons that he is very proud of. Dan's personal interests include abstract art and music. He has a love-hate relationship with two pugs.
Dan no longer works a recruiting desk, though he misses serving clients and candidates. Dan still spends a great deal of time consulting with companies on Hiring Best Practices. Creating successful recruiting and retention plans has become more and more complicated in our current business environment. Helping companies solve these business problems is exciting and challenging work.
Dan is an author -- MATCH, A Systematic, Sane Process for Hiring the Right Person Every Time was published in December 2010 by Wiley Publishing and is available wherever books and ebooks are sold. MATCH describes the recruiting process that Accountants One utilizes in achieving the incomparable success rate it has maintained for decades.
The opportunity to serve people and bring value in an authentic way continues to motivate and inspire Dan every day. He truly loves his job.
